Pop In Weekly: K-pop Demon Hunters No.1 ?, Doja Cat Plans Seoul Stop, Lisa Goes Labubu

K-pop Demon Hunters set to smash the box office, Doja Cat announces Seoul stop this December, and Lisa goes full Labubu in London — Hot Tea & Cold Takes for the week of August 25!

1) “Kpop Demon Hunters” Expected to Take No.1 in Box Office

Looks like Netflix made the right call bringing the smash hit “Kpop Demon Hunters” to theaters. 😏 Just last week, I I told you about the official sing-along events on August 23 and 24 in select countries (including the U.S.). Now, according to Variety, the film is projected to bring in $18–20 million over the weekend. Jaw-dropping, considering that’s from just 1,700 screens — while Weapons, the film favored to be No.1, is playing on 3,631 screens and only expected to hit around $15.6 million. Even wilder? Out of those 1,700 screenings, 1,150 are already sold out. Netflix is clearly betting this move will hype audiences into rewatching the film on streaming. (And I think it will actually work!)

👩🏻🍵 Kayla’s Thoughts:

It’s honestly surreal that “Kpop Demon Hunters” has been embraced this way. 😊 For me, K-pop’s global definition now feels split into before and after this movie. Huge congrats to Netflix and everyone behind the project. 👏 But it’s totes unfair that only some countries are enjoying this theater experience! Why not Korea — the home of K-pop?! 😤 Netflix is insane for missing this chance to blow it up even bigger. Someone call their global strategy team because… hello?? 😩

2) Doja Cat Announces World Tour

Doja Cat is hitting the stage! On August 22, Doja Cat announced her world tour Ma Vie World Tour on her official website. The American rapper/singer/song-writer/record producer (yes, she wears all the hats) known for hit songs like “Say So”, “Kiss Me More”, “Paint the Town Red” and “Woman” will start her world tour in Austin, Texas on October 5th. She will then head over to Australia and Asia. Stops include the Philippines, Singapore, Japan, Thailand, Taiwan — and, for the first time ever, Seoul on December 13.

👩🏻🍵 Kayla’s Thoughts:

I was honestly surprised to see Seoul on the list. TBH, while most people know at least one of her songs, she doesn’t have a super loyal fanbase here. Well, maybe the growing number of Expats may fill in the seats. Also, I feel like it’s a missed opportunity and a bummer that she won’t stay long enough to enjoy Seoul. I mean, that’s the fastest way Hollywood stars win Korean fans — show us you actually enjoy our culture! What a pity. 🤷🏻‍♀️

3) Lisa Goes Full-On Labubu at Deadline Concert

Lisa knows how to get the internet buzzing — and this time, it’s all cute, no controversy. 🤭 Last week, news made rounds that she lit up the Wembley stadium on August 16 (Day 2 of Blackpink’s DEADLINE tour in London) with her Labubu inspired look.

She popped out in a pink Labubu mask, fuzzy pink crop top, mini skirt, and fur-trimmed boots — a full custom look inspired by the viral plush toy. It’s no secret that Lisa been hyping Labubu since early 2024, practically mothering its rise into a global trend. So her bringing it on stage? Totally deserved. And it did not disappoint at all. 😆

👩🏻🍵 Kayla’s Thoughts:

Lisa in Labubu ensemble got me thinking a) She really knows how to market herself and b) she’s even cuter than the original plush. 🤭 Honestly, who else could embody Labubu like Lisa? At this point, she’s basically its unofficial ambassador. Someone get her a licensing deal already!
