BAFTA snubs hit Netflix animation, V hits up LA for TIRTIR pop-up and a verdict on Squid Game actor — Hot Takes & Cold Tea for the week of November 17th!
1) BAFTA Snubs “Kpop Demon Hunters”

It seems like the girls of Netflix’s “Kpop Demon Hunters” can’t win everyone’s hearts. 💔
Just a week after the historic Grammy nominations, Variety reported that Netflix got hit with bad news: “Kpop Demon Hunters” is not eligible for the 2026 BAFTA Awards.
According to BAFTA’s Film Committee, the movie failed to meet one key requirement:
A minimum of 10 commercial screenings in the UK over at least seven days (in total)
Netflix initially gave the film a limited event screening on August 23 and 24 across 264 UK theaters . It returned for an additional 528 screenings over the Halloween weekend. That’s probably only a total of 4-5 days. So under BAFTA rules, Netflix failed. 😞
Netflix has previously tried to appeal to BAFTA’s initial rejection of the film under “exceptional circumstances” for event cinema, but BAFTA ultimately upheld the rejection.
👩🏻🍵 Kayla’s Thoughts
It sucks to be Netflix right now… or at least the legal people who must have combed through the eligibility at one point. 😭 But rules are rules — and you can’t bend BAFTA just because you’re freaking Netflix!
On the bright side, at least “Kpop Demon Hunters” is still eligible for the Oscars and the Grammys, which is a whole lot more famous than BAFTA. One award snub doesn’t erase the fact that “Kpop Demon Hunters” rocks and is the biggest animation in the world right now!
2) V Hits Up LA for TIRTIR Pop-Up Store
Things are not slowing down for our new beauty king! 🤴
Following V’s Hot Debut as TIRTIR’s first global brand ambassador, his next stop? Hitting up LA for TIRTIR’s first ever global pop-up store on Melrose Avenue!
On November 15, V attended the brand’s new ‘Radiant Pop-Up’, where he was joined by celebrities including Madelaine Petsch, Charles Melton, Isabela Merced and Emily Alyn Lind, as well as many other stars and influencers.
The pop-up store offered a full-on immersive brand experience for guests, from a specialty cocktail bar, one-on-one foundation color matching experience, bespoke lip and skincare zone to a matcha café.
The TIRTIR in LA pop-up experience will run through November 23rd.
👩🏻🍵 Kayla’s Thoughts
Whether I agree with the whole male K-pop star representing K-beauty cosmetic brands… one thing is for sure. Press wise, TIRTIR struck gold. 🏅 The coverage is everywhere! Social blew up!
But even without the “V” effect, the pop-up store looks so fun. I’m most jealous of the matcha café, honestly! 😍 If I lived in LA, I’d be sprinting over to the pop-up store. So all you LA girlies, head over to the TIRTIR pop-up store while you can!
3) Squid Game Cast’s Latest Verdict
Embed from Getty ImagesJust like in the photo above, it’s all smiles for actor O Yeong-Su.
On November 11, the Suwon District Court overturned a previous ruling that had found the “Squid Game” actor guilty of sexual misconduct. The 81-year-old Golden Globe winner was previously accused of hugging and kissing a woman without consent back in 2017, and in 2022 he was sentenced to eight months in prison (suspended for two years).
Fast forward 3 years later, the appellate court has now reversed the conviction. Their reasoning?
- The fact that Oh apologized doesn’t necessarily confirm the incident
- The victim seeking counseling six months later “distorts” reliability
- Too many doubts remain to convict the defendant
Legally, the court ruled that the defendant should be protected.
👩🏻🍵 Kayla’s Thoughts
These kind of cases are always murky – unless you’ve followed the case closely, it’s impossible to know the truth.
But judging purely from the reasoning in the ruling?
Honestly… what a dumb verdict. 🙄
Victims don’t always report immediately — sometimes they’re embarrassed, scared, ashamed, or just processing. And dismissing her allegation partly because she sought counseling months later feels extremely tone-deaf.
If Oh is innocent, I hope the court had better reasons beyond “her memory could be distorted.” As it stands, I find the legal logic disappointing. 😩
Are you disappointed for “Kpop Demon Hunters”? Do you want to go to TIRTIR pop-up store as much as I do? Do you find the Korean court so dumb? Tell me your thoughts below! ⬇️
