The K-pop Demon Hunters cast belts out viral hits at TIFF, Jeon Somi lands her Hollywood debut, and Lisa finally meets the Labubu creator — Hot Takes & Cold Tea for the week of Sept 8
1) K-pop Demon Hunters Bring Karaoke Fun to TIFF 🎤
“Kpop Demon Hunters” may have taken over the charts with “Golden,” but at TIFF, the cast gave fans something different: karaoke night!
On September 4, Netflix hosted the Demon Hunters karaoke party at Bar 404 in Toronto, where Rei Ami (Zoey) and Audrey Nuna (Mira) joined Kevin Woo (Mystery Saja) on stage. They belted out soundtrack hits — including “Golden,” the chart-topping anthem — to a crowd of fans and festival-goers. Let’s just say that it seems the cast are having a blast! 😝
👩🏻🍵 Kayla’s Thoughts:
I loved seeing them show a lighter side of the franchise. It’s not always about awards and records — sometimes it’s just about having fun. 🤪 Plus, it’s nice that voices like Rei Ami, Audrey Nuna and Kevin Woo got some spotlight outside the “main characters.” Now, fun’s over, back to business — the HUNTR/X girls got the VMAs to present at this weekend!
2) Jeon Somi Lands Movie Role, Marking Her Hollywood Debut

Could Jeon Somi finally break into the mainstream… as an actress?
On September 3, Deadline reported that Jeon Somi will make her Hollywood debut in “Perfect Girl”, joining Arden Cho (“K-pop Demon Hunters”) and Adeline Rudolph (“Mortal Kombat”). The thriller is pitched as “Scream” meets “Black Swan”, set in the ruthless world of K-pop auditions. With only four spots available in the fictional band, tensions rise when a mysterious new trainee enters — and girls start disappearing one by one.
The film will feature six original soundtrack songs, though it’s not clear if Somi or the cast will perform them.
👩🏻🍵 Kayla’s Thoughts
Honestly, I’m rooting for Somi — she’s worked hard but never fully exploded in the K-pop scene like her name suggested. This role could level her up. That said, she’s never officially acted before.I mean her father does act in Korean tv shows but only as a very small limited role. That being said, I just hope that she’s practiced a lot and doesn’t embarrass her fans. 🫣
Also, can we talk about how Hollywood keeps churning out K-pop movies and shows? This is like the third project in development that I’ve heard of in the last two months! I just hope “Perfect Girl” is actually good, because if not, audiences are going to get tired of “K-pop gimmicks” real fast.
3) Lisa Finally Meets with Labubu Creator
The Queen of Labubu finally met the king of Labubu!
On September 4, Lisa shared two IG stories — the first with Kasing Lung, the creator of Labubu, captioned “Finally!!!”

The second showed off her exclusive Mokoko plush toy, gifted by Lung himself with a handwritten note: “To Lisa, Thanks for Your Big Support.”

👩🏻🍵 Kayla’s Thoughts
This was a long time coming — Lisa practically launched Labubu into global stardom. Honestly, I thought this meeting would’ve happened sooner. Or did they already meet before but I’m just not aware of it? Still, she deserves the exclusive plush; she’s the one who made Labubu cool worldwide. And for the record… yes, I once thought they looked hideous. But thanks to Lisa’s constant posts, I think I’ve been brainwashed. Now they’re kinda cute. LoL.
Wouldn’t you love a karaoke night with “Kpop Demon Hunters” casts? Are you excited for Jeon Somi’s debut in Hollywood and do you think she’ll do a good job acting?! Do you think something bigger will come out of Lisa and Kasing Lung’s meeting or was it just an opportune fan meeting?
